Smaller budgets
Affordable Wedding Photography in Wakefield
Affordable wedding photography doesn’t mean cutting corners. Here’s what £500 gets you with an experienced Wakefield wedding photographer, and how to make a smaller budget go further.

Affordable wedding photography: what £500 buys
My Silver package is £500 and it’s the same photographer, same camera and same care as my biggest package. You just get less time on the day. It includes:
- An informal chat before the wedding to plan the pictures
- Three hours of coverage, perfect for a ceremony, drinks reception and group shots
- 200 images, each edited in three styles, so 600 finished pictures
- Copyright-free digital files on USB and an online gallery to share with family
Full details of all three options are on the packages page.
Who the Silver package suits
It’s ideal for registry office and town hall weddings, smaller celebrations, second weddings and couples who’d rather put their money into the honeymoon. I photographed Jade and Stephanie at Pontefract Town Hall and the short, busy ceremony-to-drinks part of the day is where three hours goes furthest.

Why cheaper isn’t always cheaper
There are photographers who’ll do a wedding for a couple of hundred pounds, and some are brilliant. But it’s worth asking a few questions before you book anyone on price alone:
- Can you see full weddings, not just a highlights reel?
- Do they carry backup cameras and memory cards in case something fails?
- Will they be the one turning up on the day?
- How long until you get your pictures, and how are they delivered?
You only get one go at it. Whatever you spend, make sure the person behind the camera has done it many times before. I’ve been photographing weddings for more than ten years.
Ways to stretch a smaller budget
Book coverage around the bits that matter. Ceremony, family photos and a few portraits of the two of you are the pictures people treasure most. You don’t always need the first dance.
Pick a weekday or winter date. Venues are cheaper and I’m more likely to be free.
Keep everything close. A ceremony and reception in the same place, or a few minutes apart, means more of your coverage time goes on pictures rather than travel.
Skip the album for now. You get every picture digitally, so you can order prints or an album later when the bills have settled.
If three hours isn’t quite enough, the Gold package at £800 covers the whole day from bridal prep to first dance, with 900 finished images. It’s the package I recommend for most weddings.
