Vows at Wakefield Town Hall

Tom and Mary were married at Wakefield Town Hall, a Grade I listed landmark right in the heart of the city’s Civic Quarter. Dating back to the 1880s, the building’s Victorian grandeur — ornate ceilings, grand fireplaces, tall original windows — gave their ceremony a real sense of occasion, and it’s a venue I’ve come to know well over the years for exactly that reason.

Coming from a proud Traveller family, Tom and Mary’s wedding carried a real weight of tradition, and it showed in every part of the day — from the warmth between families as they arrived, to the sense that this was a celebration rooted in something much bigger than just the two of them.

Onward to The Holmfield Arms

After the ceremony, everyone made their way from Wakefield Town Hall out to The Holmfield Arms for the reception — its parkland setting on Lowe Hill giving us a beautiful, open backdrop for the couple’s portraits before the evening got underway.

A Large Family Gathering

The evening itself was where the day really came into its own. Family had travelled from far and wide to be there, and the reception grew into a large, joyful gathering — generations of the same families together in one room, children running about, and a genuine sense of community that you don’t see at every wedding. For a Wakefield Traveller wedding like Tom and Mary’s, that’s really what the day is about: family, tradition, and everyone who matters most gathered together to celebrate.

Celebrating Into the Night

As the evening went on, the dancing and the laughter carried on long into the night, with the whole extended family still going strong well after most weddings would have wound down. It was a privilege to photograph a day with so much genuine love and tradition behind it.
