Wakefield Wedding Venues
A photographer’s view of the Wakefield-area venues I’ve worked at: what they’re like, where the light is best, and real weddings from each one.
Choosing a venue is the first big decision, and it shapes how your photos will look more than anything else. Here’s what I’ve learned from photographing real weddings at each of these places.
Wakefield Town Hall
A grand Victorian building in the middle of the city, with sweeping stairs and high ceilings. Ideal for couples who want a formal ceremony with the cathedral and city streets on the doorstep for portraits. See Tom and Mary’s wedding.
Hatfeild Hall
A Georgian manor house on a golf course, reached by a long tree-lined drive. Lovely grounds, a real sense of arrival and plenty of space for group shots. See Rachel and Anthony’s wedding.
Waterton Hall, Walton
A house on its own island in a lake, reached by a footbridge. Water, trees and old stone everywhere you look, which makes it one of the most photogenic venues near Wakefield. See Amzy and Kevin’s wedding.
The Holmfield Arms
A relaxed country pub on the edge of the city with gardens that glow at golden hour. Perfect for couples who want a laid-back day. See Jaysie and Michael’s wedding.
Dimple Well Lodge, Ossett
A Victorian manor turned boutique venue, five minutes from Wakefield, with ivy-clad walls and garden arches for portraits. See Lorraine and Mick’s wedding.
Pontefract Town Hall
A beautiful civic building right in Pontefract’s market place, with the castle a short walk away. See Jade and Stephanie’s wedding.
What to look for, as a photographer
- Natural light. Big windows in the ceremony room make a huge difference.
- Somewhere outside close by. Even a small garden gives you options for portraits and group shots.
- A wet-weather space. A covered terrace or a bright room for group photos if it rains.
- Sensible timings. If the ceremony and reception are in different places, allow enough travel time.
