About Me
I’m Ross — a Wakefield-based wedding photographer, and if I’m honest, photography has always been more of a way of life for me than a job. I’ve been photographing weddings professionally for over a decade now, and I still get the same buzz from every single one.
Every wedding, every moment, no exceptions
That’s really where my approach to wedding photography comes from. It’s not about patience — it’s about being switched on all day, seeing the shot no one else in the room sees, and never putting the camera down long enough to miss it. Every wedding I shoot, I’m ready from start to finish — capturing everything, so the moments that matter never get missed.
Family First
Family comes first, always. After that, you’ll usually find me chasing one of two things: a long-exposure shot from a mountain top, or a good result at Oakwell. Give me a free Saturday and I’m either up a hill somewhere in the middle of nowhere, camera set up for a long-exposure timelapse, or pitchside with a coffee watching Barnsley. My son Lewis and I are season ticket holders, and getting to the match together whenever we can is one of the best parts of my week.
Outdoors and Long Exposure
Outside of weddings, my real love is the outdoors — wild camping, landscape photography, and putting together long-exposure video timelapses of the sky and the land changing in front of me. There’s a particular kind of patience that long-exposure work demands: setting up, waiting, watching the light shift over minutes rather than a fraction of a second. I spend a lot of time editing that footage too — there’s something about sitting down with hours of raw footage and turning it into something that actually tells a story that I never get tired of.
How That Shapes My Wedding Photography
Landscape work has taught me to notice light the way most people never have to — where it’s falling, how it’s moving, and how long I’ve got before it changes. On a wedding day that translates directly: knowing where the best light in a room is before anyone else has clocked it, and being ready the moment it lines up with the right people. Combine that with more than ten years of experience reading a room full of family and friends, and you get photography that’s honest rather than staged — the real day, captured as it actually happened.
