Vows at All Saints, Sherburn in Elmet
Amber and Scott were married in the traditional way, exchanging their vows at All Saints’ Church in Sherburn in Elmet, just outside Garforth — a building with roots going back further than almost anywhere else in the area. There’s been a church on this site since before the Norman Conquest, with the present building begun around 1100, and the centuries since have added to it in layers: a 13th-century chancel, a 14th-century aisle, a 15th-century chapel, right through to restoration work in 1857. Walking in, you’re standing somewhere that’s been a place of worship, and weddings, for close to a thousand years.
That sense of history gave the ceremony a real weight and stillness, and it made for some beautifully atmospheric photographs — the light through the old windows, the couple walking back down the aisle as husband and wife, family and friends filling the pews around them.
