On the river, just past Pontefract
Knottingley sits on the River Aire a few minutes east of Pontefract, with the canal running through and Ferrybridge next door. It’s a close-knit town where weddings are usually family-sized and full of people who’ve known each other forever.
Where Knottingley couples marry
Pontefract is the obvious choice for a civil ceremony, and its town hall is one of the most striking venues in the area. The Nelson Room’s plaster frieze was used in the making of Nelson’s Column. I’ve photographed a wedding there and know the room well.
Riverside portraits
If the timings allow, the riverside and canal paths make a calm, natural spot for a few portraits away from the crowd. I’ll scout it when I visit your venue the week before.
